Selden Standard3921 2nd Ave, Detroit, MI 48201 Find the full menu here: http://www.seldenstandard.com 💵 Price: 💲💲💲💲 🤗 Service: Okay 🍽 Food: Great 🌠 Atmosphere: Great 👏 Presentation: Great 🥄🥄🥄Located in midtown Detroit, Selden Standard has a love for food with friends. Unfortunately . . . I wasn’t with friends, but I still had a great experience. A comfortable atmosphere with a “modern hipster” twist provides for a nice dining experience. The restaurant greets you with a large pizza oven surrounded by a white and black tile wash. Wood panels cover the ceiling and rustic light bulbs hang down. Looking at the menu, I was definitely surprised. The odd combination definitely peaked my foodie interest. Chicken peas and toast? Don’t mind if I do. Ordering off of Selden’s brunch menu, I opted for an orange juice and beef brisket hash. The beef brisket hash included a poached egg, root vegetables, and horseradish gremolata. The orange juice was freshly squeezed, so if you love a glass of fresh orange juice as much as I do, I definitely recommend ordering it. The beef brisket hash appeared in a beautiful presentation with parsley and radish shreds on top. I thought the presentation and portion size was perfect. On portion levels, the U.S usually has gradually larger overflowing portions so I appreciated the smaller, yet fulfilling portion. Though I have a very low tolerance to spice, I was hit with a wave of spicy. My mom, who in fact is tolerant to spicy foods, felt that there was, in fact, a spicy kick as well. I believe that there should have been some warning of the spiciness on the menu. Besides that critique, the meal was overall very good. The poached egg added a great flavor taste along with the wonderfully seasoned hash. We also ordered a side of tots. These tots were different than any I have ever seen before. With a large spherical shape and a rather warm and salty inside, they were definitely a new taste for me. The restaurant truly was a new experience. The meals seemed to be reasonably priced and the atmosphere and creative food combinations left a hipster vibe. I have decided that I’m going to start harsher criteria. Though this restaurant would normally get a 4 spoons rating I am going to overall rate this restaurant 3 out of 5 spoons.
