When I say work for your food I mean hiking 7.5 miles down the Grand Canyon just to get a steak dinner. The Phantom ranch Steak dinner has to be booked a year in advanced along with your reservation because your food is carried down by mule. I don't know many resteraunt where your food is delivered on mule so this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The dinner is served family style. The steak dinner includes delicious juicy steak, warm baked potatoes with sour cream, green beans, salad, and to top it all off a chocolate cake for dessert. Personally the steak really impressed me. On the way down to the ranch we ran into a ranger who told us that the stew was better then the steak and I started to regret my decision of getting the steak, but once trying the steak I definitely did not regret it. Maybe it was just the heat getting to my head but it was one of the best steaks that I have ever had. The steak was seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection. I especially like the way the hot potato and sour cream tasted with the steak, it was delicious. One major thing that you have to do when hiking in extremely hot weather is eat lots of salty food, so after having lots of salty and packaged food all day I was craving a nice green salad, and that's exactly what I got. The salad had peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. and had a delicious ranch dressing on the side. Along with already all this delicious food there was green beans. And finally to put the cherry on the dessert (literally) the meal was topped of with chocolate cake. Unfortunately I have no photos of my meal well at the phantom ranch because the phantom haunted my camera. Besides this one hiccup, my meal was excellent. For being a meal in the bottom of the Grand Canyon I would rate this a 4 out of 5 spoons restaurant.
